The National Day holiday schedule for employees on September 2nd, 2024
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs suggests that agencies and units arrange and organize work reasonably during the National Day holiday in 2024 to ensure continuous operation and good service for organizations and people.
For agencies and units without a fixed weekend schedule on Saturdays and Sundays, the National Day holiday schedule for 2024 will be based on specific programs and plans of each unit.
Employers in units outside administrative, public service, political, and socio-political organizations will decide the holiday plan for National Day 2024. Specifically, employers will choose to give a day off on either Sunday (1/9) or Tuesday (3/9) and must notify employees at least 30 days in advance. If the weekly day off coincides with a holiday, employees will get a compensatory day off on the next working day.
Previously, at the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in December 2023, the labor organization proposed to the Party and State to add 2 more days off for the National Day holiday (from 2 days to 4 days). This allows workers to rest and take their children to school on the new school year opening day (5/9) annually.
Working on National Day September 2nd, 2024, increases salary by how much?
Based on Article 98 of the 2019 Labor Code, the regulation for the September 2nd holiday is as follows:
Overtime pay and night work pay
Employees working overtime are paid according to the wage unit price or the actual wage paid for the job as follows:
- a) On normal days, at least 150%;
- b) On weekly days off, at least 200%;
- c) On holidays, Tet, and paid days off, at least 300% excluding the holiday, Tet, and paid day off salary for employees paid by the day.
Employees working at night are paid an additional at least 30% of the wage calculated by the wage unit price or the actual wage paid for the job of a normal working day.
Employees working overtime at night, in addition to the pay mentioned in Clauses 1 and 2 of this Article, are paid an additional 20% of the wage calculated by the wage unit price or the actual wage paid for the job done during the day of a normal working day or of a weekly day off or of a holiday, Tet.

Therefore, the National Day September 2nd is a paid holiday, and employees working on this day will receive additional salary as follows:
- Daytime work during the National Day holiday September 2nd will be increased by at least 300% of the salary.
- Night work during the National Day holiday September 2nd will be increased by at least 390% of the salary.
Do employees receive bonuses on National Day September 2nd?
Also, according to Article 104 of the 2019 Labor Code, bonuses for employees are regulated as follows:
Bonuses
Bonuses are money or assets or other forms given by employers to employees based on production and business results and the level of job completion of employees.
The bonus regulation is decided and publicly announced at the workplace by the employer after consulting the employee representative organization at the establishment, if any.
According to this regulation, bonuses are not mandatory for employers to pay employees. Therefore, the law does not specify a bonus amount, and this will be decided by the company.
Thus, whether employees receive a bonus on the occasion of the National Day September 2nd depends on the company’s bonus regulations. These regulations are decided and publicly announced by the employer at the workplace after consulting the employee representative organization at the establishment, if any.
Will there be fireworks on National Day September 2nd?
Currently, there is no specific information about fireworks on National Day. However, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have organized this activity in previous years.
Some specific locations include:
- Dam Sen Cultural Park – Lac Long Quan, Ward 3, District 11, HCMC.
- Thu Thiem Tunnel roof – District 2.
- Hoan Kiem Lake (Ho Guom) – Hang Trong Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
